Izakaya Kikufuji at Little Tokyo Makati

It amazes me whenever I find awesome authentic restaurants behind unsuspecting places. I don’t frequent the Pasong Tamo side of Makati, and after my first archery session at Makati Cinema Square, my guy and I found ourselves enjoying a perfect Japanese meal that’s just a few steps away.

It was out of curiosity that we decided to dine here. From the outside,Izakaya Kikufuji does not look inviting at all–the front door is hidden behind two white pieces of cloth with Japanese words written on it. However, the place has a certain charm that would draw you in.

The moment you step inside, it was a totally different thing. Although there were no fancy decos and ornaments to communicate their Japanese-ness, at Izakaya Kikufuji, there’s an instantaneous feeling that the night is something to look forward to.

As our default seating place, Chris and I sat by the sushi bar. The menu had very little translation and photos. We ordered a bunch of sushi and some ramen curry.

Their sushi are priced per piece. My favorite Tobiko, which basically is flying fish roe sushi, is only Php62.00. The salmon sushi are Php72.00 each.

While I loved their sushi, sashimi ans skewers, the bowl of Ramen Curry (Php270.00) was a little mediocre for me.

Nevertheless, Izakaya Kikufuji houses one of the best salmon sashimis I have ever tried, their Tobiko doesn’t use the cheap micro-sized fish roe, and you get complimentary beer on your next visit–I think these are good reasons to come back for more.

Too bad we’re far from Makati. But the sushi looks really good. 🙂 Sometimes I base on appearance when I choose food, especially if they have no English translation. 🙂 It’s kinda pricey though, or is it big enough for the price? I admire you for trying out restaurants that are not so commercialized. 🙂
