Dear Couchwasabi,
How are you? I love reading your blog and Pepper is really cute!
Anyway, my hair (and scalp) has been funny lately. I guess it’s the weather, I don’t know. So, here’s my question: is it possible for the weather to affect the quality of my hair?
– Dianne
Hi Dianne,
To answer your question, yes! Weather can, in fact, affect the quality of your hair. The hair problems you experience during rainy season occur because humidity leads to excessive perspiration and the scalp gets oily. Humidity also leads to sticky or frizzy hair, dullness, hairfall, and even dandruff (yikes!). Plus, if you’re a commuter, you would have to think of the pollution, dirt and dust that can settle on your scalp–which leads to irritation and often, a smelly scalp.
Lucky for me, I stay indoors most of my days so I don’t really have to worry about pollution build-up. But this doesn’t save me from having monsoon hair problems. Actually, your mail is very timely as my hair has been acting up lately. So what I did was, I switched up my shampoo. Currently, I am enjoying Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo. It’s a gentle clarifying shampoo that’s perfect for the humid weather. I feel that my hair and scalp is squeaky clean after every wash. Plus, the scent is amazing!
On days when I feel my hair is extra blah, I use Schwarzkopf Zero Frizz 100% Rescue Deep Conditioner. This serves as my weekend hair moisture treatment. This product is great for chemically-treated or color-treated hair as it nourishes the hair. Though conditioning is good for taming frizzy hair, I do not recommend using this more than once a week. You have to know that humidity + oily scalp is never a good combination.
If you feel your hair or scalp feels a little too oily, I suggest for you to wash your hair as often as required but choose your shampoo wisely. Go for a mild cleansing shampoo for regular use and pair it up with a suitable conditioner for your hair type. Normally, I switch up my hair conditioner brand every after product empty. Right now I am using SunSilk Co-Creations Strong & Manageable Nourishing Conditioner.
These are the products that’s currently working for me. Let me know if it helped you, too!
