Pick of the Month: Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

I have been using this for roughly about a month now before I decided to make a review–and eventually, declare as one of my favorites. I wanted to make sure I give full justice to Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant before I post my review. This is, in fact, one of their best-selling products.

When I attended Paula’s Choice brand launch in the Philippines last month, I have my eyes zero-ed out on their 2% BHA. Not that I wanted to be fairer as I am fair enough. But I do habe moments when I feel that my skintone is uneven and a little patchy.

Since bringing Pepper home from the streets, my skin has been acting all wild. It’s nothing anti-histamine can remedy, I thought. So I let my lips remain swollen for 3 months, continuously applying hydrocortisone on the affected area and popping loratadine when it becomes unbearable. I have also grown patches here and there–to which, I still apply topical creams to make them heal. I started drinking chamomile tea everyday since I’ve read somewhere that it promotes healing from within.

Now my skin’s a bit more stable. But the 4-5 month-long hiatus left my skin uneven and patchy. Good thing I got Paula’s Choice 2% BHA (beta hydroxy acid) Exfoliant.

What I love about this product is that it’s gentle even for sensitive skin. Paula’s Choise 2% BHA Exfoliant does not sting. It has a pH range of 3.2-3.6. Of all the exfoliants I’ve tried, this is the most gentle solution I have ever used.

BHA (salicylic acid) is a superstar ingredient for exfoliating skin and reducing inflammation. The BHA removes the outer layer of dead skin cells, allowing healthier cells to come to the surface. Removing this dead layer can improve skin texture and colour, unclog pores, and allow moisturizers to be better absorbed by the skin.

As a general rule for all forms of breakouts (including blackheads), BHA is preferred over AHA because BHA is better at cutting through the oil inside the pore. Penetrating the pore is necessary to exfoliate the pore lining.

An added benefit of salicylic acid for those struggling with acne is that it is naturally anti-inflammatory and also has a mid antibacterial action. Its anti-inflammatory action can be helpful for those struggling with the skin disorder rosacea. BHA is also best for those struggling with white bumps on the skin.

Even as short as 10 days of diligently using this product on my face, it has effectively cleared out all my dry patches. My beau also noticed that my face looked brighter–especially when I wash my face, it looks to fair and supple. I guess the exfoliant effectively removed all my dry and dull outer skin to reveal a younger and healthier layer of skin.

Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant’s lightweight formula allows a faster and deeper exfoliation rate than their gel or lotion BHA products. This makes it an ideal choice for stubborn clogged pores or blackheads–or in my case, getting ride of rough and mildly inflammed patches.

Since BHA increases collagen production, it can also drastically smoothen the surface of your skin. Thus my main problem of uneven skin tone and dry patches has been eliminated by using this product for a month. I have not noticed any reduction in blackheads, though. Maybe it’s too early to judge. But I can definitely see the effects on my skin’s texture.

I’m still using Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant and I normally apply it at night before I hit the sack. But just like other exfoliants, this product makes your skin light-sensitive. I suggest for you to use at least an SPF 30 to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun when you’re out and about during the day.

i really love skin care products that have salicylic acid in them. 😀 and you’re right about wearing a sunscreen when you’re using these kinds of products because the ingredients makes the skin more susceptible to the harmful rays of sun.
