Beauty Battle: Shiseido Cream Eye Color or Maybelline Color Tattoo

I think this may be one of my favorite beauty battles to date.

Seeing my two favorite colours blue and green on a white pebbled background reminds me so much of summer and the beach. Anyways, as promised, I got myself some Maybelline Color Tattoo and put these babies in a product showdown to see if you can ditch spending USD25.00 from Shiseido and opt to get a USD6.00 drugstore alternative.

I’ve never had a cream eyeshadow so when I first tried Shiseido cream eye color, I was really impressed by its staying power, given that I didn’t need any eye primer to make it stay put and last all day without creasing.

Although I was really happy with my Shiseido pot, I was really determined to compare this with Maybelline’s Color Tattoo so you dolls can have a cheaper drugstore option. 🙂

In terms of packaging, both brands look a lot similar with a clear glass pot and black cap. Shiseido comes in a 6g pot while Maybelline is in 4g. To me, however, this is not a deal breaker since we know that cream shadows can dry up faster and become harder to use than a normal powder shadow so the fewer fill size, to me, is better.

Upon swatching, Shiseido feels a lot creamier and easier to blend versus Maybelline. But then again, this might be because this Maybelline is an old stock. I would need to check the counters to know if this is really the case for Maybelline. Ideally, you would want  smooth and cream eyeshadow for it to be blendable. Dried up cream shadows can be flaky and, believe me, that doesn’t look anywhere from pretty.

Both brands are intensely pigmented in metallic sheen. I know Maybelline already came out with other finishes for their Color Tattoo such as leather and matte, so that’s pretty interesting. While Shiseido’s Cream Eye Color is all in this metallic finish.

Testing it for all-day smudge-proof challenge, I used both products on the same day for a better comparison. I noticed that Maybelline had a tad bit more creasing towards my inner eye as compared to Shiseido. But both brands looked decent even after 12 hours of wear. Both brands are easily removed by soap and water, so that’s cool, too.

In my opinion, Maybelline Color Tattoo is a good and cheaper option if you would want to try out cream shadows. The claim that they last all day without creasing is real. But if you have an extra budget to splurge, Shiseido is also a good buy, being that it’s more creamy and blendable than its drugstore counterpart.

Nevertheless, you have to know that these cream shadows need extra care to prolong its lifetime as it tends to dry up. In my next coming posts, I will be talking about how to take care of your cream shadows and how to revive dried up cream/gel eyeshadow or eyeliners. 🙂

PS, Okay, I went to Watson’s yesterday to test out a fresh pot and I realized that Shiseido’s is really a lot more blendable and creamy than Maybelline. When I asked the sales attendant on how to save a dried up Color Tattoo, she just flat out told me that I had to throw it away and buy a new one >,< Not the best solution, in my opinion. In the coming days, let me just do some experiment with my current pot and teach you which trick will best revive your dried up Maybelline Color Tattoo. <3
