CW Beauty Talk: How to care for chemically-treated hair

CW Beauty Talk

Dear Couchwasabi,

I love your new color! Mas bagay sayo. You look younger. What surprised me is that you also had rebonding done. Isn’t that dangerous? Nakakasira ng hair? How do you maintain your hair? I assume it’s fragile now.

Hello Jen,

Thank you so much! I am very happy with my CYNOS makeover, too! Well, based from CYNOS’ hair technicians, doing two treatments at the same time is a challenge. There is one requirement, though, before they allow such multiple procedure–the client’s hair must be 100% healthy.

Luckily, I don’t subject my hair to abuse–daily hair drying, too much procedure done over a short period of time, etc. Your hair needs to breathe. I subject my hair to chemicals–usually because of hair rebonding–with a minimum gap of one year. And I guess that’s ideal.

I know there are people who would dye their hair every 3 months, I wouldn’t say that’s not healthy. But you have to know your hair. If it feels brittle and dry, you should be able to stop and let it breathe for a minimum period of 6months-1 year. Or be diligent with your hair salon for your periodic keratin treatment.

Now taking care of your hair is one thing and having a trusted brand to have your hair treated is another. All I can say is, I am very satisfied with my CYNOS hair rebonding. You know when you have your hair rebonded and the ends get frizzy? That’s a sign of damaged hair. With CYNOS, you won’t have any of that. Also, I noticed that CYNOS used LPP Hair Treatment many times during the procedure.

CYNOS LPP Hair Treatment strengthens your hair and protects it from the harmful chemicals brought by hair rebonding or even bleaching or dyeing.

Going back to healthy hair, it doesn’t mean I don’t take extra care with my crowning glory. If you are familiar of hair rebonding, you would know that you shouldn’t shampoo your hair for the next 3days after the treatment and wash only with conditioner for the following 4days. It’s one week of no shampoo–that is to help your hair replenish all the natural oils that were stripped off during the procedure. And I’m proud to say that I diligently follow this rule.

On the day that I am finally allowed to shampoo, I use the super nourishing CYNOS’ Argan Oil tHAIRapy Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s gentle to my hair and, of course, you know all the benefits of argan oil to our hair. If you don’t, well, argan oil is great to calm frizzy ends, add moisture to dry hair as well as add a little shine. Also, make sure that you shampoo every other day for the next 30 days. This is the reason I do not have my hair rebonded during summer. It’s icky to know I can not shampoo every day.

After stepping out of the shower, I use a pea sized amount of CYNOS Moroccan Argan Oil Serum on the ends of my hair to help seal in moisture before I dry my hair with an electric fan. No, I never use hair blower. But if ever you are into hair blowers, please choose the ones with cold air setting as hot air can make your hair frizzy. Also, I don’t rub my hair with my bath towel. Rubbing/friction may also cause frizziness.

I comb through my hair with my fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Never use a brush as it may tug and pull your delicate hair, which may cause breakage.

Finally, before I go out, I spritz a generous amount of CYNOS Shine & Shield Spray 8-12 inches away from my hair then I comb through. This is to protect my hair from the harmful effects of UV rays and hair static. This product also coats our hair and adds shine. Again, we wouldn’t want to have dull and frizzy hair, right?

All of these seem to be too much but you need not worry. Remember, chemically-treated hair needs extra care and attention. Plus, CYNOS products won’t weigh your hair down and is suitable for daily use.
