Before even setting foot in Thailand, I have already planned my first purchase: A local sim that can let me stay connected during my entire trip. It was a logical idea rather than availing Globe’s Php500.00/day internet rate.
I had already done my online research on which carrier to choose and what mobile internet package. As soon as I landed in the airport, I made sure to drop by Gate 7 to buy AIS traveller sim (Baht299.00) that has 7 days unlimited internet.
I had a choice between AIS and DTAC and since my Globe sim automatically connected to AIS, I thought that this would be the right choice.
Well, I guess internet connection is not that streamlined in Thailand. First, LTE coverage is VERY limited to none at all. 3G is not that great even in Bangkok. Note that AIS is supposed to be the leading network in Thailand but even right in Bangkok, the signal is not that great.
BUT, buying a local sim in Thailand sure does a lot of savings. I don’t even have to worry as I am connected to the internet even if I am out of my hotel. Though very slow, it’s enough to send out Viber or Kakao messages.
It’s my 2nd day in Thailand and I’m still clueless on what to buy. Please suggest some through leaving comments below. I’ll be checking my WordPress from time to time ๐
