School season is coming in a few weeks and we’re halfway down our kids’ summer break. I know we should be limiting their screen time, but instead of letting them mindlessly watch Youtube videos, why not let them explore brain-boosting puzzle games?
Did you know that allowing your kids play puzzle games can actually boost their problem-solving and critical thinking skills? Some of these puzzle games, especially when you get to check and screen them first, can actually make their limited screen time more productive by ensuring that their free-time is spent on a fun and engaging casual learning experience through games.
I recently discovered www.culinaryschools.org, which houses a collection of hundreds of different interactive online games for kids, and some of you might even find enjoyable even as an adult.
My nephew has really been enjoying the Candy Leap game, which is a simple pixelated platforming game where you help a kid collect all the candy on each stage. It’s like Mario, but he’s collecting candies and each jump turns the spikes in the game on and off so you have to be strategic. My nephew’s 10 years old so he’s able to easily figure out this game and progress.
While I, on the other hand, found myself engrossed with this Tom and Jerry game whenever I’m needing a 5-minute decompression break from my work.
It’s a fun and straightforward game about Tom catching Jerry. If you know me, (1) I don’t really play games to begin with, and (2) complicated games turn me off. So this simple and easy to navigate, game gives me the right de-stressing activity that I need whenever I wanted to have a quick breather. Plus, the nostalgia of playing characters that are familiar in my childhood is just perfect.
So I started from scoring 196 and ended the session at 404. I know that’s not much for most but for someone who *really* does not play games on a daily, I consider that a feat! Haha!
Other games that I truly enjoy is the classic Candy Jam, which is like the famous Candy Crush Saga, where you will match three candies to earn a point and progress to the next level. This game has been proven to be enjoyed by toddlers and older adults alike.
So if you’re someone who’s looking for a chill, dopamine-releasing game that you can enjoy, or if you’re someone who’s seeking to provide a healthy outlet for your child’s limited screentime, check out www.culinaryschools.org.
