Let me get this straight–what Legolas and Katniss were doing wasn’t an easy thing. Haha!
I never imagined I would have a chance to hold an actual bow and arrow, more so, to try to shoot some arrows. I’m not–at all–the sporty type so when archery became a thing after Hunger Games came out in Manila, I was never really bitten by the archery bug.
It took me some time to visit Kodanda Archery Range when they invited me to try it out last month. Finally I was able to set an appointment last week–to which I never thought how much I would enjoy shooting arrows.
Kodanda begins the session by gearing you up and teaching you the basics. Since it was my first time I was a little nervous I might not be able to shoot a decent shot. I was even shaking when I tried to pull the arrow for the first time–halatang hindi sanay!
To be honest, I had a lot of hit and misses . But what I like about Kodanda is that you won’t feel intimidated even if you’re missing the target. Everybody is supportive and the staff does a great job in teaching you how to do it right.
Here are some sets that I did pretty well.
Kodanda is the only archery range that is fully air-conditioned (vs open air) and open to the public (vs club membership required) in Makati. They are also the most affordable archery range as the hourly fee already includes range rental, use of international-standard equipment and protective gear, and coaching on archery basics from expert instructors.
Each set lasts for about 5 minutes and you can rent your lane and gear for a minimum of an hour–that’s a whole lot of shooting, really. If you decide to come with a friend, you can split the bill by having 30minutes each.
The range operates on a whistle system, depending on the number of whistle blown, you would have to get ready, shoot, or pull your own arrows from the target. I was such a weakling, I was even struggling when pulling my own arrow. Haha!
But the best part was when they had me tried to shoot a balloon.
Gosh I thought I’d never be able to get it right! LoL!
So here I am feeling proud of my first shooting experience.
