PhotoDiary: Xiamen Trip 2014 (Part 1) – Checking-In and GuLangYu Island

Finally, here it is, my first installment for my Xiamen Trip last month. Sorry it took me this long, my loves. My plate was full for the past few weeks since I arrived. And though I still have too many things to do in between, I owe it to you guys to share what I’ve been doing. Haha!

Anyway, so here goes!

My family and I checked in at Super 8 Hotel. It was a 3 star hotel in Xiamen. We got rooms for CNY245 a night–not bad at all. For the price, we’re really happy with the hotel room.

The next day, we decided to go to a nearly island called Gu Lang Yu. We had to walk to the bus station. What I like about traveling to other countries is that I get to experience first-hand commuting. I don’t really go around commuting in Metro Manila. It’s nice to immerse yourself in these kind of local lifestyle.

We had to stop over to the first temple we came across with.

I was really impressed with the humongous size of their fruits in Xiamen. The mango was as big as my face. The atis and ponkan were equally giant-sized versions too.

We got to the port to ride a speedboat to Gulangyu Island–one of the famous tourist spot when going to Xiamen.

What I noticed in the island is that there are a lot–like, A LOT–of couples having their pre-nuptial photos in Gulangyu Island.

Gulangyu Island is famous for their fresh and dried seafood products.

Even their shells were hideously large!

The island is on China’s list of National Scenic Spots and also ranks at the top of the list of the ten most-scenic areas in Fujian Province. Gulangyu Island is renowned for its delicate natural beauty, its ancient relics, its varied architecture and museums.

We were able to learn how to perform the traditional Chinese tea ceremony.

You can take home the tea experience with you as various kinds of tea and snacks were sold in the museum.

Gulangyu Island is famous for their surrounding reef. Natural coral jewelries were sold in the museum as well.

We checked other museums in the island as well.

We had a quick stop by the beach.

After the beach, we were taken by our tour guide to see the different scenic spots in the island. It was a day full of walking and trekking.

We checked out the island’s hundred year old store.

I couldn’t help but notice all the stray dogs that were freely walking around the island. How I wish I could take one back in Manila! I even saw white kittens being sold on the side walk.

I was delighted to see this Mario Bros. house–pretty unique to find this around.

Lastly, I took photo of their super-sized yogurt drink and other snacks that I enjoyed during my first day in China.

China was not as bad as I have always thought it would be. Please stay tuned for my parts 2 and 3. I have lots of photos to post-edit and all. But I promise to put it all up this month 😉

Bisous!
