Product Review: Maybelline Dream Satin Skin in O1

Base makeup is probably the least kind of makeup you’d buy impulsively. I read somewhere that you’d need at least two foundations in your kit: one’s for your daily skin color and another for your tanned color. But for most of us, especially in the Philippines, having one bottle is more than enough.

I used to be an advocate of sporting a foundation-free face. But since discovering that wearing a good foundation can actually help your skin look better and add life on photos, I became a convert.

Since Maybelline is currently on 50% off sale until April 3, I picked up their famous Dream Satin Skin foundation when I was in Antipolo last Good Friday. Here’s how it looked when I compared it to my current L’Oreal foundation:

This Maybelline Dream Satin Skin is more viscous compared to my L’Oreal True Match. The formulation is great as it blends to your skin easily. It has a medium coverage and is definitely buildable. It doesn’t have any strong cosmetic scent, so that’s a plus.

This foundation, though, is not suitable for dry skin. I’d normally have combination skin but my skin is acting up lately and it has turned a little dry and patchy. This foundation sort of highlighted the dry patches of my skin despite having a layer of moisturizing sunblock under it.

Oh, and another boo-boo? I picked up a lighter shade than my skin. Lesson: never rely color matching foundation on wrist only… I knew I should’ve went with the B-range!

From its Php499.00 regular price, the Maybelline Dream Satin Skin foundation is now being sold at Php249.00–not bad for a full 30ml foundation!

Have you tried this foundation? Tell me about it!

I’ve currently using it everyday, ok naman sya. I didn’t experience any breakout but I still prefer the TrueMatch just because it has a thinner consistency.

Thank you for that Ms. Jirbie! I really want a base makeup that can really suit my skin since I am a combination. I already experienced having breakouts before due to some products that doesn’t suit my skin even though it is a known brand.

I was about to buy one but it was sold out na. I am torn between this one and L’oreal’s TrueMatch, good thing I read your post. 🙂
