What a great way to wake up trying to find an old busted camera to score yourself a 20% discount and some freebies when getting the latest ‘it phone’? Oh, and did I mention that your purchase is also eligible for 12-months 0% installment?
Yup, if in case you haven’t heard or if you’re living under a rock, Huawei went a little cray over the weekend asking people to bring their old cameras–working or not and digital or film–for trade-in at their flagship store in SM Mall of Asia Cyberzone.
There’s only one catch: you have to be one of the first 200 customers to purchase a Huawei P9 or P9 Plus.
Here’s the bin where all the old cameras went–luckily I am the 125th customer. Yay!
I was torn between getting the P9 or the P9 Plus. I am totally against using phablets since I already have a Samsung Tablet and an iPad to begin with. But since I get to enjoy a 20% off upon purchase with my traded-in camera, it’s like getting a P9 Plus for the price of the smaller Huawei P9. So, yeah, I went for the P9 Plus.
While there are 6 colors available for Huawei P9 Plus in other countries, we only have it in Haze Gold here in the Philippines (I wish they brought in Rose Gold here!). The Huawei P9 Plus that we have here comes in 64gb memory and 4gb RAM.
The staff will open the sealed box in front of you to check. Here’s how it looks like:
The unit comes with a free hard case, hands-free headset, USB Type-C Cable, and Huawei Quick Charger.
Since I brought an old camera for trade-in, I get to receive freebies like their VIP Card (that promises to replace your unit outright if there’s a problem with it within the first year), a Gouache bag, and a Huawei 13000mAh Power Bank.
Huawei P9 Plus boasts a much-talked-about dual rear-facing Leica cameras. I’m sure the younger millenials wouldn’t really understand how big of a deal this is. Simply put, growing up, all I know is that when you’re holding a Leica, you’re into some serious photography shiz.
Since this is a first impressions post, I haven’t really gotten around experimenting with the dual lens function YET. But here’s how it looks like beside my iPhone 6s:
It looks so similar at the bottom when you put in side by side an iPhone. Oh, and note that the free hard case wouldn’t cover the bottom of the phone. So if you’re OC with your phone, better get a fully covered case from Greenhills.
I stopped by Greenhills after purchasing this Huawei P9 Plus and I wasn’t successful in buying a tempered glass specific for this model. I ended up buying a generic 5.5″ tempered glass, which works well for the mean time. Casings aren’t available for this unit yet but come back in a week or two I’m sure you’d have options already.
Do you know anyone who took advantage of the sale over the weekend? How’s their experience? Let me know through comments and get yourself to win this month’s Reader of the Month prize! xx
