This review is a little too late since we all know that Samsung Tab S has already been released in the market a couple of weeks back. But anyways, I am loving my Samsung Tab Pro 8.4, which is an upgrade from my Nexus 7 tablet.
Screensize-wise, Samsung Tab Pro has a slightly bigger screen than my old Nexus 7 at 8.4inches versus 7inches and the unit is slightly lighter at 11.82 oz. The colors are much more vivid than my old tablet with Samsung having a pixel density of 359ppi and resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels.
It has improved camera from my old tablet at 8mp and has a front camera of 2mp. The battery life is slightly higher at 4800mAh. Both units are running on quadcore processor but this Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 has 2mb RAM versus my old 1mb RAM from 2012 Nexus 7.
Given the technicalities, I’m really loving my new tablet. And since I normally use my Samsung Tab Pro reading e-books, e-magazines and some social media applications, I’m not really keen on upgrading to Samsung Galaxy Tab S.
On the other hand, I was also able to compare my Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 with my sister’s Apple iPad Mini 2. Specs-wise, Samsung has a highter pixel density at 359ppi versus Apple’s 324ppi, but that’s just a minimal issue. However, you might consider that Samsung has 8mp back camera and 2mp front camera versus Apple’s 5mp-1.2mp combination.
iPad Mini 2 runs on dual-core processor and has an internal RAM of 1mb while Samsung runs on quadcore with 2mb of RAM. Samsung has an expandable memory through its microSD slot up to 64mb. Battery life is also better with Samsung’s.
Clearly, between Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 and Apple iPad Mini2, Samsung gives better value for money. However, while I was checking Samsung Experience Store in Megamall recetly, Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 is not on display though this was just released earlier this year.
As of the moment, Samsung is really pushing their Galaxy Tab S in the market with its 2560 x 1600 pixel WQXGA Super AMOLED screen, which works out at 360ppi for its 8.4″ version. It is packed with 3mb RAM, 16gb storage, an 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front-facing camera, and 7,900mAh battery.
Yes, Samsung Galaxy Tab S runs on octa-core. The Samsung Exynos 5 Octa CPU inside these tablets combines 1.9 and 1.3GHz quad-core processors. I guess that’s the main reason why it needed that much battery life.
Samsung Tab S retails at Php24,000++ (8.4″) and Php29,000++ (10.5″). Both are offered at o% 12 months interest.
